Ajkwa River, situated in the southern part of the largest gold mining in Indonesia, Grasberg Mine. River`s geomorphological pattern showed that the river sufferred due to huge sedimentation, it is also probably contains high pollutant from tailings activities. The following image shown that the near-natural color of sediment is white, indicated high pollutant, not natural sediment
It can be seen from satellite image year 1988, the size of the Ajkwa River was smaller than year 2000 and 2013. The development of new settlement just began on that year (Timika Town and Mozes Kilangin Airport)
The double-white arrow shown the changes of the river`s geomorphological situation in the same sampling location. Its seem there was human influence to widen the river size.
River ecosystem and coastline ecosystem are under serious threaten, because heavy rainfall frequently happen in this region, the pollutant then could be transported. Human environment is also under threaten since the pollutant could infiltrate into groundwater as surface runoff or percolate mechanism.
