Half-meter resolution image of Hoover Dam, was collected by the GeoEye-1 satellite on January 10, 2009. The dam and hydroelectric generating station are located between Nevada and Arizona in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. The dam was completed in 1935, which created the Lake Mead reservoir. Fifty years later it was designated a National Historic Landmark.

Half-meter resolution image of the United States Capitol, Washington D.C. was collected by the GeoEye-1 satellite on Jan. 20, 2009 to commemorate the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. The image, taken through high, wispy white clouds, shows the masses of people attending the Inaugural Celebration.
